P-22 dying reminds me of when Cecil the Lion was killed (which was of course more brutal and unnecessary) and I thought it was odd the emotional outpouring displayed for a single animal while simultaneous total disrespect and hostility towards billions of other animals.

Don't totally get the "anti-naming of study animals in conservation" debate. People were upset about Cecil the Lion and now people are upset about P-22 the Puma. Studies need a handle to ID animals - public emotions seem to arise because of the animals' fate, not its name.

In other words: it’s terrible that ‘Cecil’ the lion was killed but not terrible that an anonymous unnamed cow / pig / sheep / chicken / turkey was killed. The hypocrisy in this is weird. In other words, we can kill & eat meat, but they can’t.

I don't get how it was controversial when that dentist shot Cecil the Lion. F'n Antonin Scalia shot some caged herbivores in Tejas, totally f'n died, and there's... mourning? Y'all's Traaaayash.
I wasn't even close to being vegan at the time, but I remember thinking "that is peculiar" and instead of feeling bad about Cecil the Lion, I just doubled down, ignored the brain dissonance, and ate a burger. But it definitely planted a seed.

There was a time when vigilantes and judgemental behaviour was not an issue. It seemed to come to a head when lion Cecil the Lion was killed by a hunter.Sadly it is very hard to change mass behaviour. Freedom of speech and lack of safety and moderation arent the only problems. /2

I have a different view, commercial real estate development eg malls, office buildings etc are largely funded by pension funds with the government employees pension fund being the largest investor so yes it does grow national wealth
