Wow! Here's a lightning bolt I just captured from the thunderstorm southeast of Sacramento.

A Fire Weather Watch has been issued for portions of NorCal. A chance of scattered t-storms could produce lightning and gusty winds. This may lead to critical fire weather conditions.

I’ll try this again. Brightest bolts of lightning I’ve ever photographed, this exposure over Mt. St. Helena,8 standing sentry over Sonoma, Napa and Lake counties, early Friday morning.

Massive lighting bolt over Mission Valley! Seen from El Cajon in the neighborhood of Camino Cañada and I-8. So I had wrapped up a twilight real estate photo shoot in El Cajon and then this epic thunderstorm started in the distance.

Rise and shine, it's Friday! While Bonny Doon has yet to throw off the covers of the marine stratus blanketing the area, we still think it makes for a pretty photo! Have a wonderful Friday, all.

Not a bad view of the marine stratus snaking the Big Sur coast earlier this afternoon.

Mixed fire wx news for NorCal. Good news: some precip now appears likely across far NorCal, esp. North Coast. Light showers possible elsewhere north of I-80 on Fri. Bad news: strong onshore winds Fri-Sat, then offshore winds on Mon, could drive rapid fire growth.

Looks like a rough afternoon on the
#CaldorFire as a large smoke plume emerges hinting at active wildfire behavior. Nearby wx stations reporting RH near 10% with southwest winds gusting to 20 mph.#CAwx pic.twitter.com/aGG4RrFGDw -
Good news: storms in NorCal have been wetter than expected, w/isolated areas seeing wetting rainfall of 0.10-0.30 in. That will reduce number of new fire ignitions. Bad news: record-dry vegetation will still allow for "holdover" fires that will pop up in coming days.

This just in! Big Bear Lake broke their high temperature record for today
The old record for today was 84 degrees, set just last year! #cawx pic.twitter.com/g3kXWuGqLk

Quite a lot of lightning already tonight. So far, mix of wet & dry storms have been concentrated near I-80 corridor, Sierra & foothills, plus Orange/SD/LA counties. Quite a few NorCal wildfire starts already...& I expect additional "holdovers" to pop up later.

Well, that was a short-lived CA wildfire reprieve. New
#HopkinsFire in Mendocino Co. is spreading rapidly in WUI & is actively burning structures; lightning fires in southern Sierra (esp#WindyFire) are taking off, & NW CA activity on existing fires increasing again.#CAwx#CAfirepic.twitter.com/VyigC7EoTv -
#OTD: 1 year ago today the Creek Fire erupted, sending off a major Pyrocumulonimbus spawning several tornadoes, lightning, and extremely erratic fire behavior. The plume was up to 50,000 feet, making it the highest documented Pyrocumulonimbus on record in the United States.#CaWX pic.twitter.com/c8OCzIG2Wc
