    I interviewed for grad school with and he stopped mid-interview to call another school and advocate on my behalf. It went a long way towards making me feel included in the neuro community and I’ll never forget!

    I was sad to read that passed away. One of my all time favorite exchanges (from interview): Q. What about the idea that male scientists are more competitive? A. I think that’s just utter nonsense. Men just make this stuff up.

    Ben Barres was an incredible scientist and person who will be deeply missed. As a transgender scientist, he truly understood both sides of the gender gap and fought hard for women in science (and for glia).
