“Woodland fragmentation is a really big problem for marsh tits” says - they don’t like crossing open habitats, and rarely travel more than 5km. Great research on a very sedentary species.

The last couple of talks at highlighted the importance of casual colour ring sight records. Hearing the life history of the bird you've seen can be amazing. I measure my scope cost in pence per colour ring combination, it's down to 15p.

Great to be at where two of the greatest advocates of long term structured monitoring and volunteer engagement were remembered. I'm lucky to have spent so much time with both John and Clive and learnt so much from them. Let's ensure their collective legacies live on.
