  8. Last night I finally got a reasonably decent image of the Apollo 12 landing site. The lunar module Intrepid landed close to Surveyor 3, which soft-landed over 2 years before. This image also include the Far Maura area where Apollo 14 landed.

    Fifty years ago this week, Apollo 13 crew members Jim Lovell, Ken Mattingly and Fred Haise were training at for a mission that would put everybody's skills to the test. One month until launch:

  13. 50 years ago, as the Apollo 13 prime crew and their backups finished training, a crew member caught the German measles, exposing his crew mates to the virus and changing who would fly... just two days before launch.

  14. Apollo 13 astronauts and their backups continued to train for their 10-day mission planned to include a landing in the Fra Mauro region of the Moon while engineers prepared their Saturn V rocket and spacecraft for the April 11, 1970, liftoff.
