    “Good landing, Pete! Outstanding, man! Beautiful!” 50 years ago, astronauts Pete Conrad and Alan Bean made a pinpoint landing aboard the lunar module Intrepid on the Moon's Ocean of Storms, only 538 feet from our robotic spacecraft Surveyor 3.

  6. 50 years ago, the number of human visitors to the lunar surface doubled. On Nov. 19, 1969, astronauts Pete Conrad & Alan Bean landed their Lunar Module on the Moon, then completed 2 spacewalks. Richard Gordon orbited above in the Command Module.

    50 years ago, astronauts celebrated Thanksgiving aboard the 's USS Hornet, still in quarantine after their return from the Moon. They arrived back in Houston Nov. 29, along with lunar rocks and parts of the robotic Surveyor 3 lander.

    "Whoopie! Man, that may have been a small one for Neil, but that’s a long one for me,” Pete Conrad upon setting foot on the Moon during . This was a nod to a height difference between the 2 astronauts - Neil Armstrong was 5’11” (1.8m) tall while Conrad was 5’6” (1.7m).

  15. 50 years ago today, launched on a mission to land on the Moon & set up instruments to return science data. In celebration of that historic day we are sharing this animation showing the locations of the Apollo landing sites. More:

  16. After nearly 90 hours in lunar orbit, performed its Trans-Earth Injection maneuver to get on a three-day trajectory back home. That same day, Pete, Al, and Dick were treated to front row seats of a solar eclipse.

  17. The crew of did two moonwalks (ExtraVehicular Activities - EVA). During EVA-1, nearly 4 hours were spent exploring and deploying the Apollo Lunar Surface Experiments Package (ALSEP). Tomorrow (on EVA-2) Pete and Al will make a visit to Surveyor III.
