Today the House voted to repeal the 2002 & reclaim Congress’s constitutional authority regarding war & peace. If wants to use military force against Iran (or any nation) he must first come to Congress & seek authorization.

HAPPENING TODAY: The House of Representatives will vote on 's bill to repeal the outdated 2002 . Repeal is a necessary first step in restoring some measure of balance on war powers.

  3. BREAKING: Bipartisan House vote on & amendment passes, repealing 2002 that authorized war in Iraq & is still abused today. A great first step toward restoring Congress's proper war powers. My take:

  4. this amendment emboldens our enemies and makes our nation less safe. The safety and security of the American people at home and abroad should be the central focus of our foreign policy. I strongly oppose this legislation. We must keep Americans safe.

via It shouldn’t have taken the latest dust up with Iran to get to this point. We shouldn’t be sending American troops to war based on an that was passed before they were born.

  10. Today, I voted to reassert Congress’s congressional authority on matters of war. The No War Against Iran Act and the repeal of the 2002 Iraq both passed the House with my support. Congress, not the President, has the sole constitutional duty to declare war.

There’s a reason why our Founding Fathers gave Congress the authority to authorize war: because sending our sons and daughters into harm’s way requires the voice of the American people. My statement on today's vote on :

  14. This morning I gave a speech on the house floor about the and the dangers posted by Iran. Watch here:

  15. Needless to say, these measures would endanger Americans. And by putting them into a bill originally designed to honor WWII vets, Democrats have insulted the sacrifices they made to keep our country safe.

  16. Instead of deliberately debating constitutional war powers, Democrats continue to play games at the expense of our veterans.
