    So , how about at our org's leaders make a commitment to disallowing interviews that don't pay for candidates to attend the meeting? It's the least our organization can do to protect the most vulnerable &struggling in our field & it just makes sense.

    SIDE NOTE: I'm sitting behind John D'Emilio. As he sits and listens to this panel on AIDS, I wonder how proud he must be. When he got his PhD in 1982, he was basically alone in doing LGBT history. Now, we queer historians are EVERYWHERE. What a hero. 🏳️‍🌈

    I told my physics grad student S.O. that one of the signature cocktails is named "More of a Comment than a Question" and he laughed so hard he had coughing fit and needed several minutes to compose himself. Even from afar, is bringing academic disciplines together.

    This is a really great list of interview questions for those of you headed to the . More than that, they're just really good questions to know about yourself generally, wherever you are in your career or project. Also, meditation helps a lot. And don't forget to sleep.

    I'm currently on a search cmte, & thanks to the brilliant leadership of its members, it is probably the most inclusive search this institution has ever run. And for that reason - because we wanted an inclusive pool - we did first round skype interviews, not . It was easy.

    Lots of well-meaning job market advice for those attending filling up the TL. But most of it assumes that interviewees are first-time/ABD. But there’re lots of folks in those rooms with books done/out, multiple years teaching, seeking Asst Prof positions.

    I love conferences and I'm sad I won't be at , especially this year. The catch-22 when you are marginally employed is that you need the connections and inspiration even more, but you can afford it even less. Attendance is for the privileged.
