  2. We have a pair of grey squirrels who have started coming to the bird feeders right outside the kitchen window.I have taken to putting peanuts out specially for them on the ground in the optimistic hope that the feeders will remain intact

  5. The collared dove was a great rarity when it first arrived in the UK and twitchers travelled miles to see it but nowadays it’s a common sight having become a very successful resident

  7. Passed the 600 postcard point!there are mosses,liverworts,loads of birds still to do not to mention the moths,caterpillars,insects & fungi,3 ponds 2 streams as yet uncharted carries on bringing me comfort in difficult times helping me as I loose myself in my work

  8. Spring flowers at last are beginning to appear they are a welcome sight for any early pollinators helping to tide them over the hungry gap 🐝

  10. Mr Bullfinch & his mate are in the back garden again & he’s a handsome fellow.Soon they will build a nest in a mature stand of scrub & there she will lay between four & seven eggs Later when the chicks are fledged I will watch them feed in front of the house again

  13. I found lots of sloe pips cashed in a disused birds nest by a wood mouse yesterday.Wood mice often use all sorts of places to live from bird boxes to the house I live in. They like to move in with us when the cold weather starts. Sweet but rather naughty

  15. Today’s postcard is a Chiffchaff one of the earliest summer migrants to arrive.A small leaf warbler this little bird makes a domed nest on or close to the ground & is insectivorous. named after its call Chiff chaff chiff chaff all day long.

  17. I’m looking forward to the billing & cooing it’s such a lovely sound.The dawn chorus is building,the days are gradually lengthening,primroses are openin,each of these are signs of the coming spring with its promise of new life,new beginnings & hope.
