Dr Fasano connected celiac disease (an autoimmune disorder) to autism 5 years ago. I believe he stated that 20% of people with autism may in fact be celiac disease patients.

My son is diagnosed with both autism and Crohn's disease. I wonder if there is a connection...perhaps an immune response that affects both the brain and the gut.

I am so grateful for this research. Some of us (parents/grandparents) have known this would be the eventual finding - but we lacked credibility. Fortunately for my grandkids - I treated it as an immune modulated condition from day one. We have been very successful.
