Someone once told me "To be a CEO you don't have to be willing to lay-off thousands of people the week before xmas. You have to *want* to do it." Most bosses kiss ass and backstab their way into power. They don't get there by being intelligent or good at business.

That's why the class system gave rise to the Empire and the Industrial Revolution - really good NCOs and foremen who couldn't get promoted (eventually to their level of incompetence - everybody has one) because they were born into the wrong class.
