I think if you need wildly performant rendering speeds you should use d3 or other tools built for speed and fast repaints. I think the react core team should make todo apps as simple as possible, not as fast as possible.

We tried to do async rendering in Batman and after the 4th weekend of late night memory leak debugging in a row we just switched it to render synchronously to eliminate a huge class of bugs and simplify everyone’s life.

That means devs are now gonna pay the cognitive overhead price outside the framework and the core devs are going to be chasing bugs and fielding issues until the cows come home.
