I don’t hate Twitter - indeed I think it’s still super-important - but it is stressy for me now in a way it never used to be, and this is my trial run of a solution that isn’t leaving.

And obviously I’ll take longer to answer DMs. But I will.

It also means there’ll be fractionally less about climate change and Covid in your TL.

There’ll be times when I’m here more often (book launches etc) but that’s my policy going forwards. It means I read more, stress less, fight less, but I get to be in touch with you all and the wider world.

I think we need to use all our resources, skill and ingenuity to migrate from fossil fuels within a decade. Meanwhile cutting out all unnecessary use of fossil fuels (recreational, production of semi-useless goods like cheap fashion items, outsize cars, carbon intensive foods)...

You’d expect some kind of propagation - a diminution of this kind of behaviour and a surge of public disapproval- but the first especially just seems totally absent.

I should say that if anything does happen it will be because made it so. But what’s astonishing is that the ripple effect seems so limited.

The UK has delivered zero percent of its promised doses to COVAX 0% It has procured enough doses to vaccinate all its citizens four times over 400% coverage My hunch is it will cling to these doses for boosters Couple this with the cuts in UK aid & it’s not a pretty picture

Poll after poll shows that the public in rich nations wants doses and IP shared! “an average of seven in 10 people across G7 countries want the government to ensure vaccine know-how is shared” 2/n

Me: I wish to send goodies Them: All our goodie boxes have a patriotic redwhiteandblue theme and pictures of the Queen during wartime! Me: But not goodies which look like a British Empire revanchist pamphlet. Them: There’s our sexy line? Me: I must go now I am terrified.

Covid, Climate, and so much else: the key concept is not “what can I do?” but “what can we do?”
