Yes! I'm so glad someone with expertise and a large audience is making the same argument -- we should consider sheltering those at risk and allowing a controlled spread.https://twitter.com/DrDavidKatz/status/1241157583190319106 …

What does a controlled spread get us? It’s a fast mutating virus, so you don’t build immunity. While it’s spreading, everyone who would normally go to the hospital can’t get the services they need, and mortality rates for non-infected also spike. There are very mixed messages on immunity. My reading has suggested that most coronaviruses confer at least partial immunity. I’ll read the article you suggest now.

Yea the article @MikeSchroll points to has been widely distributed in my network. Basically suggests getting this thing back under control with lock downs and then following S Korea’s lead — great tracking and quarantining (ie containment)

We can only follow S Korea's lead when we've ramped up testing capacity sufficiently to control the rate of people getting infected as they have (quickly identify new infections, then contact trace to quarantine & treat people before it spreads). Good news is we're doing that.

          Aaron Cannon Retweeted Nate Silver

Agreed. We need to seriously ramp up testing and slow transmission until testing catches up. And then we have to wait for it to stabilize. Will take some time to even notice once we’re caught up...https://twitter.com/natesilver538/status/1241512006366244871?s=21 …

But this reflects the lag between when curve-bending measures (mostly meaning social distancing) go into effect and when they start to show up in the data. There's probably something like a 7-10 day lag between infection and when people go to hospitals.
