Meditation is not a replacement for sleep. It can supplement it if you are already getting sufficient sleep (7-9 hours, depending on activity). But if you are waking up early with an alarm to get meditation time in, you’re depriving yourself and would be better off sleeping.

I use mindfulness in my practice, but meditation is a neurophysiologically distinct state from sleep. Nothing replaces REM sleep to retune brain cerebellum
function.
If a client of mine was trading off sleep to meditate, I’d gently help them reprioritize their schedule.

It’s about the energy field which gets created in the room, it multiplies the effect. I attended some group healing sessions, extremely powerful, because each participant acts as a node in the network (similar to Bitcoin, now that I think of it :-)

potential answer for (2) - having other people around helps you stay focused on any activity sort of like how I can lift more when I'm working out with a buddy

I read an article that explained #2. Humans give off energy and download it. So when a group collectively taps into the higher source of energy the downloads intensify. Similar to clustered cell towers. It also explains why people who spend time alone die sooner.

I was very surprised how nice it was to meditate in a group the first time I did it... I thought there would be alot self-conscious type thinking.

Definitely disagree on two, but I've found that to vary the most person to person. Completely with you on (1). What do you find is better when meditating in a group?
