Fair, but I disagree with the underlying premise. The value of an education isn't just about acquiring skills to be able to get to a job. Arts, humanities, philosophy, these courses may not teach you how to do you job, but that doesn't mean they don't have a lot of value.

But Caplan's statement isn't that learning the violin is valueless (au contraire, he's probably much more an advocate for classical music than the average person). He's saying he wouldn't want to be forced to learn to play, especially when presented other opportunities.
