  6. Why do we need to know all this? To make good calls in management, monitor changes, and protect vulnerable nature. E.g: If 1 species used as a indicator of low pollution turns out to actually be 6 species w/different tolerances, it impacts our management. 9/n

  9. So much work has already been done by scientists before us-and yet there's a lot left to discover! We estimate that at least 30% of the species of in Norway are still undescribed (so, new to science!), and that is in one of the most studied areas in the world! 🌍 6/n

  10. This is one of the cool bits: often we even have to go all the way back to the , the animal the original description of the species is based on. We also use old & new literature, and borrow material from other museums. 5/n

  11. is fun! 🌊❤ It is also absolutely neccessary to collect new material to answer new questions. For example: no one had DNA analyses on their mind when they fixed samples in formaldehyde in the past. 4/n

Immerse yourself in this underwater forest! Filmed off the Scottish coast, underwater cameraman Andy Jackson dived with seals, octopus, starfish and dog sharks, while cameraman Rowan Aitchison got the incredible close-ups! 😍😍
