A few weeks go we acquired a Song Meter SM4 to monitor its performance for nog-mig recordings. In short....they’re superb in every regard. High quality recordings, long-term deployment, weather proof, long battery life, high storage capacity, easy to use.

Our Focus On Knoll beach event is well underway. Despite the choppy conditions, we've had views of 4 fm Common Scoter, 6 Black-necked Grebes, and 5 Mediterranean Gulls. We are still based at the Watersports Hut until 1pm.

Another good Sunnyside ringing demo last night with 6 Jack Snipe caught including a new re-trap from 07/03/19. Minimum of 15 seen. Also 2 Woodcock ringed, c20 seen. Looked like an increase of new arrivals with recent freezing temps.

It wouldn’t have been a proper low tide cruise if we hadn’t got stuck on the low tide! Still, good to be surrounded by birds. Thanks all that attended...10 GN Diver, Marsh Harrier masses of waders, GC Grebes, Merganser, the Black Brant etc

What a day! Thanks to all that got out and counted for our Big Poole Harbour Bird Count. It seems we have a lot of data waiting in the wings, but full species sightings will be published tomorrow and counts analysed this week. A real joy to be out.

We started the day with a sunrise over Studland and just finished with a sunset over Swineham. Ringtail Hen Harrier was a great finale to the day. Our BoPH HQ will be open at 17:30 tonight to discuss sightings. Come join us

This Bar-tailed Godwit (we assume it’s the same one) has been visiting the harbour for years, always in full summer plum mid-winter when it’s counterparts remain silvery ice cold. Best seen along Shore Road each day
