So weird that people always get upset and yell "STICK TO BASEBALL" about Pride Night games, but seem oddly quiet about things like Catholic Night, Pearl Jam Night, or Law Enforcement Night (all very real Red Sox theme nights this season)

i think if you specify the work you loved, that's a really nice thing to say. but if you say "i really like your early work," that feels backhanded to me.

some artists are happy to only play the hits, and that's a valid approach, but for most artists servicing fans is only one part of the whole picture. evolution is another part.

it's not a stupid opinion to have, but it's one to express to other fans or a therapist if it upsets you. artists are just going to evolve. it's what happens. we all move forward.

a really stupid thing to email a writer is "i liked what you were writing 6 years ago more than what you write now. go back to that."

to be fair to , they have promoted fiction podcasts in their Best Lists more often than any other mainstream publication. i'm just disappointed at this uninspired backpedal.

to be a lover of podcasts (not just a seeker of information), you have to be willing to take the ups & downs of a life spent intimately with strangers in your ears. brilliant episodes mixed with so-so episodes. it's a haul. it's a partnership not a transaction.

as a critic having to build a giant list, sandra only requires 7 episodes, probably has a great press kit, and is so simple in its concept. it doesn't ever require you to get into a long term relationship with it.

there are a lot of strengths to sandra (acting, audio editing, even world building), but narrative arc is objectively not one of those strengths. it cut itself short with 7 episodes. it waits to set up the inciting incident till the final ep. i would have liked it to have more.
