David Autor's work shows the falling status of men relative to women in the same age cohort, particularly non-college educated men, has contributed to declining male labor force participation, less family formation and a host of other social problems. There's no need for snark.https://twitter.com/drvox/status/1080907726899732480 …

You don't have to be believe in EvoPsych just-so stories to believe men and women compete for mates on different dimensions. It's observed and replicated. Women generally prefer men with resources and high status, while men prioritize youth and beauty. https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s40806-016-0048-6 …pic.twitter.com/kM4De14lBP

Similarly saying "Ya but my wife is ugly and I'm poor and we make it work" is not an argument. These are population level generalizations.

As women entered the labor force and excelled in college, assortative mating increased. https://www.nber.org/papers/w19829.pdf?new_window=1 …pic.twitter.com/QuIJHxjtVi

The signaling theory of college applies not just to employers but also one another. Women with college degrees prefer higher earning men with college degrees. But because women's education attainment now surpassed men, that forces many more women to "marry down" in equilibrium.pic.twitter.com/gSaszLUHvP

But equilibrium isn't necessarily achieved. If college educated women insist on marrying other college educated men, but there aren't enough to go around, you get a lot of single ladies...https://www.amazon.com/All-Single-Ladies-Unmarried-Independent/dp/1476716579 …

The flip side of more single women is more single men. More un-marriageable, low status men.pic.twitter.com/tIOPpwr5cj

Of course none of this is super controversial. Progressive writers like Rebecca Traister and Hanna Rosin have books on the topic, for example. h/t

This threads gone on long enough. I just get so frustrated by people dunking on conservatives for talking about this issue with snarky ad hominem attacks. Is there no way for folks on the right to raise these issue without being accused of self-pity?

the approach of equality always looks like a decline in status to those with the original advantage
-
Hm. But as noted above this dynamic has increased inequality. Moreover it isn't just a decline in non college educated men's relative status but their absolute status as well. https://www.nber.org/papers/w19829 pic.twitter.com/sMXjjMvBAA

i was referring to the relative wage gap between men and women of the same education level. how did that change?

Dunking on men without good jobs and are unable to make families is possibly the worst path forward for the left.
-
Agreed. But I think many people on the left are dunking not because of anti-white guy impulse, but because these men overwhelmingly voted for masculine shit-talking father figure Trump, who is a crude and useless front for the union-busting hypercapitalism that’s destroyed them.
-
Really doubt Hillary would've helped them. I don't blame them at all for voting for the guy who reinforced traditional gender norms after a decade of rapid social change that left them worse off. There's no indication the current Dem agenda would help them either.
-
Elizabeth Warren’s agenda is a laser focus on working class white economic status. But she’s Pocahontas so oh well, more libertarian crap with a few tariffs thrown in.
-
Let's not count her out so fast. Wait for the 2020 elections and we'll see which narrative wins. I suspect she'll do fairly well *because* of this speaking to blue collar folk.

But Tucker isn't making a nuanced case. His point is "women working is bad....for reasons". That's the problem.

This graph and the underlying report show convergence rather than divergence. Women are entering the labor market, and their wages are rising.
