what the hell does "neutral" mean here? What is the baseline from which deviation represents non-neutrality?

Basically, I think Facebook has a prerogative to stop being from sharing things that violate the law or are pornographic, and should pre-commit to begin agnostic to everything else.
-
That doesn't mean there are truly neutral newsfeed algos, in some deep sense. But banning particular sites, even crazy ones like InfoWars or StormFront is a pandora's box, and particularly problematic for a networked platform. Common carrier rules get at the same intuition.
-
What's the value of neutrality in this context? Like what bad things will come out of the pandora's box of banning stormfront links?

He was talking about the difficult distinction between intentionally misleading fake news and people who believe what they're saying is true. Then this guy picked it up, turned it into something misleading and spread it on social media.

Free speech absolutism in the era of the internet is so self-evidently preposterous and destructive at this point I don't know what to say. The greatest threat to the post-war international order today isn't a rogue nation state but Youtube's recommendation algorithm.

Free speech absolutism in the era of the high-capacity assault printer is so self-evidently destructive at this point I don’t know what to say. The greatest threat to the post Enlightenment international order isn’t Napoleon but the rouge pamphleteer and suffragette!

You joke but the printing press was extremely socially disruptive
-
The radicalizing effect of The Algorithm is not analogous to any book with a 'read more by' recommendation. The only way someone could claim ignorance of this is if they spent virtually no time at all online or on Youtube to see what the hell was happening to the world.
-
Moreover, it was in fact a bad thing when new propaganda measures in radio and cinema were used to help inspire several mid-century fascist movements. Today's tools are far more dangerous than those were at the time.
-
The construction of your joke evokes the much stronger analogy, of how plainly absurd modern 2A absolutists are. The refusal to acknowledge the destructive consequences of technology is not new but it is terribly costly and never well-justified.

Allright. Hate speech is fine, but DCMA or defamation claims will result in automatic censorship ? We see you. Your "hard and noble take" looks a lot like "as long as there's no risk for me, I don't care".

He’s not being neutral to content. Facebook has drawn a line over what is and is not acceptable, and it does prioritize certain content over other content.

But it's not neutral to content at all. It has rules for removing content it deems hateful. Those rules happen to permit Holocaust denial.

I agree with what you wrote, but isn’t this an odd example for Zuck to cite on that? I think factual untruths are in the very narrow category of what shouldn’t be tolerated if a platform wants to be reputable (even granting the premise of good intentions).
