Any individual or organization who tries to "own" a field of practice by publicly demeaning the validity and value of their competitors is doing a tremendous disservice to our greater community.

Professionally, when we operate from a place of scarcity—“there’s not enough opportunity to go around”—people turn petty. Wholly unnecessary politics come into play. We waste time and energy on land-grabby exchanges. We tear each other down.

When we believe opportunity exists in abundance, we open ourselves to ongoing collaboration amongst diverse people and perspectives. We learn how to listen. We do better work. We celebrate each other’s victories.

Ultimately, we lift each other—and therefore our entire field of practice—up. And that actually creates *more* opportunity for everyone. (Trust me. This works.)

So, yes. Work hard on your own thing. Show it off. But ... also ask for input. Be humble. Seek inspiration and share it widely. Give lots of high fives all around. Be that person and doors will open … not just for you, but for so many others.

Science depends on critiques in order to work. No critiques, no progress.

And what about when the info is just wrong or can be delivered better. I’m in the camp that bad info needs to be corrected...especially considering people will take it and run with it as truth.

There are way too many “experts” with no theoretical training or professional background beyond their own experience. That bothers me. #imamarketingsnob #iadmitit 😂

So much of this going on the UX/CX space it's exhausting. "Experts" trying to own, redefine and even change fundamental thinking in the ultimate land grab because it looks great in speaking gigs and LinkedIn articles. How do we go about course correcting?

Why waste time talking badly about others when you could spend time promoting yourself, your company, the really cool things happening in your field, the amazing work others are doing? People respond to positivity.
