In a rare moment my grandfather (Japan) spoke to me about his WWII deployment in China... It was hard to hear. Also, relatives from the other side of family told me stories how they got shot down over Europe. It’s unbelievably sad that, given history, some people *want* war...

If the USA had suffered a war on their own soil, their hollywoodesque view of war would be completely different. They have stories of soldiers who fight and come back home (or not). They don't grasp what's not having home to come back, war killing their children and elders.

even the remnants of our genocidal wars against native americans and our civil war still leave massive painful scars we’ve not yet healed from: I cannot comprehend such a war in my own generation

I only remember one such history from elder people of the bombings of my town by the fascist army in 1936 or 37. People was running to the settlers down in the sewers while the bombs were falling from the sky and they had to find the corpses in the ruines the next day...

Having friends whose parents and grandparents were Holocaust survivors, (and I never asked) their tattoos spoke volumes without having to say a word. Later, studying on my own I still can't wrap my head around a repeat of history on that scale again.

@drwolfff posted a timeless graphic on LinkedIn today I that hadn't seen for some years, 'War Is A Racket' by Major General Smedley Butler https://www.ratical.org/ratville/CAH/warisaracket.html … Please share widely to all to everyone looking forward to the next World War.

If you like that sort of stuff, obtain and play "this war of mine" either the video game version OR the cooperative board game version. It's an amazing game, written by survivors of the Tchequoslovakian destruction. Couldn't play more than one game, tough and depressing.

The creators of This War of Mine are actually Polish. Nevertheless the memory of the bestiality of WWII is still very much alive in our whole region.

War should always be the last possible resort, never the first
