Impossible not to notice this when using your phone in bed at lowest brightness. Happens everywhere there’s black pixels.

Looks even worse here. Seriously for a second I thought “did the Reddit app add animations to video thumbnails?” Nope. 30% brightness btw.pic.twitter.com/P0Pr60BdZd

Yes, I am aware that OLEDs do this. It seems worse than average by my quick comparison, simply yet another grievance with this screen.

That's pretty typical of OLED displays though, isn't it? My 2016 Pixel XL does it. Does it just seem worse than it is on other OLEDs?

Yeah, it looks worse IMO. Even if it was completely "normal" though, still a yet another flaw in my eyes.

I can't imagine how terrible that's going to look in VR

All OLEDs do this AFAIK, in the VR industry this is usually called "black smear". Vive/Rift/PSVR set black to dark gray because of it.

Yes pretty sure we all know this, thanks. The bad display is still bad.

I do think this is a smaller issue though-I noticed this a while ago on my 2016 Pixel and had the same "reddit animations bugged?" reaction

my Pixel XL and Nexus 6P both did this as well. Am I to understand that it isnt normal for OLED, and that better OLEDs (Samsung) dont do it?

It's definitly just LG's "POLED" tech messing things up, since you don't see this happening in the HTC Panel in the normal Pixel 2
