I hope that Google takes these screen issues seriously. At the very least, everyone with this
issue should get warranty replacements.https://twitter.com/alexdobie/status/922060857659547648 …

We should not brush this off as "it's fine." Google shipped two phone sizes, one of which with a good display and one with a bad display.
I'm more upset with the inconsistency than anything. If the smaller Pixel had the same issues then maybe I could brush it off.
At the very least, Google has shipped what should be the better phone with a major hardware compromise and buyers should beware.
But FWIW, I tend to lean on the side of having zero tolerance for things like this. Pixel 2 XL is more than usable.
If usable is what you're looking for, Pixel 2 XL is one of the best phones ever made. But this is a flaw Google shouldn't get away with.
I don't know if this is something that Google could fix considering the complexities of display sourcing. That doesn't make this acceptable.
(using the word recall loosely — in a perfect world they should fix this somehow and give OG owners replacements)
Lol recall? The display still works fine. What's next? "The camera on this phone sucks. Recall it."
If a glaring hardware problem like this was happening with an iPhone, Apple would recall it or fix it. Holding Google to the same standard.
Apple would not recall. I agree the display looks bad, but it still functions as a display. This is not an exploding battery situation.
Using the word recall loosely here. They should fix this somehow and give OG owners replacements.
THAT bad so it's need to be recalled? Wow
Shouldn't have said recall. More like they should be replaced.
Considering almost everyone is affected - it's the same thing in practice.
Yeah, but recall suggests emergency of some kind. Not gonna happen here.
I agree. Graininess, dead pixels (no pun intended), poor gray uniformity... at this point it would be a better PR move to remedy it now.
I wouldn't mind if my
2 XL got delayed more (late Nov.) just so they can at least figure out LG's display mess.
@madebygoogle any comments here?
Pretty terrible, I returned it and went and bought a iPhone 8 Plus and loaded it up with G-apps (Gboard is a life saver)
I bet Google would be getting less flack for this if they didn't charge $1000+ for these phones. High price should mean high qc standards
