Hard disagree, it's non-gendered! Alternative is "you guys" or worse, "folks".

I don’t have a southern accent at all and I say y’all and folks naturally. we aren’t even southern accented where I live in Texas. like we are the most southern part but very different accent

oh yeah i know there are plenty of places like that, that’s why i specified dialect rather than accent— it’s a part of your dialect, even if your accent doesn’t sound very “southern” you still speak a distinct dialect

As a Southerner, I wish more people would use it, so it could graduate to a normal English word. It's useful! And I feel like resistance to its national adoption is rooted in a deep distaste for all things Southern. I *promise* you won't turn into a Trump voter if you say it.

Oh I have no problem with southern dialects or other dialects that use it (AAVE most notably) I just think it sounds unnatural when someone like me says it
