I created a shit coin💩: an ERC-20 token to track shit sightings in SF. In the last 30 days, there were 2927 (!!) shits reported by SF311. With @UMAprotocol we created a token that "profits" the more shit is reported. More on why this is *good* for SF 👇http://poop.exchange

SF has a huge homeless problem, and one clear metric is the amount of human waste reported. The chart below is the 30 day rolling average of shits reported to SF311. Current average is 3000 shits per month, up from ~1000 in 2014. This trend is totally unacceptable.pic.twitter.com/qACthhX27Q

Imagine if SF were to commit to cleaning up the problem. They could issue shit coins and sell them to residents. If the city succeeds and shits go down, they make money. Residents of SF could buy the shit coins as an "emotional hedge"—they make money if the problem gets worse.

Although this sounds like a joke (and it is... mostly), this is a new tool for aligning incentives between institutions and their consumers. Other examples: NYC's MTA could issue coins that go up if subway delays get worse; airlines could issue coins if flights get canceled, etc

All credit for this idea goes to the brilliant @danielque. @mrice32, @0xlildex, @rozstengle and I created these poop tokens in **about an hour** using @UMAprotocol's synthetic token builder over the weekend @ethwaterloo2. (We were not an official entry into the hackathon).

Read more about how to create synthetic tokens at http://poop.exchange  and follow @UMAprotocol for more ideas and new financial innovations. Also, you can buy (fake) SF Poop Tokens on our Rinkeby deployment of @UniswapExchange at http://uniswap-demo.umaproject.org

BONUS galaxy brain idea from @VitalikButerin: if the city of SF were to distribute these poop tokens to all official SF residents as gift, it would be a form of Universal Basic Income... or Universal Basic Shitcome 😂😂

There must be some issues with oracles in this model, like how do you trust the reporting of 💩? In all seriousness, this is really cool!

Being serious for a sec, there are oracle issues, however the data is pretty solid (with location and with photos). Could make spoofing shit more effort than its worth.
