On World Press Day, I reiterate my support for the 1991 Windhoek Declaration and call for “an independent and pluralistic media”. The media as a Fourth Estate is a vital organ of our democratic life. A Free Press must live up to its Code of Ethics and Conduct. #PressFreedomDay

But such Code of Ethics and Conduct does include speaking truth to power, if you like it or not, and needs investigative journalism to execute a watchdog function. Singing praise songs misunderstood as an act of patriotism is undermining good governance rather than promoting it.

Happy World Press Freedom Day! NAM's commitment to press freedom is undeniable. Yes, NAM has been ranked favourably on the WORLD STAGE in line with press freedom. With Pres. HG's commitment in protecting press freedom, NAM will keep shining on the international stage. BRAVO! 👌pic.twitter.com/i13uZEqevy

It is surprising how Mulife has changed. Do you know that Hage Geingob instructed NBC not to broadcast LPM material on NBC? Our press conferences aren't even covered by NBC. We wrote letters to NBC DG but he isn't forthcoming. Maybe a court order will do!

How did I change? For sure, I decided to be in HG's corner. Following NAM politics, I will say, it's "guys" like you & the likes of Cde. @ngurare that have changed a lot. Believe me, every NAMs knew that your SPYL-Class will someday take over the reigns of GRN. What went wrong?👂

@hagegeingob How can free press live to its Code of Ethics and Conduct, Mr President, if a number of leaders in powerful positions are being arrogant to journalists when they ask them core questions that the nation wants to know?

Then if you reiterate, have a word with your Vice President who attacked the media. Also review your attitude towards social media. Talk is cheap. Actions speaks louder
