I tried it for two days and it was absolutely impossible. I use mail apps on my phone, home computer and work computer tied to Gmail accounts. Every time an app checked for mail I would have to reauthenticate. Each device. Yes, it’s so secure even I couldn’t get in.
I'm guessing you may have missed a config issue - Google lets you create phone-specific or app-specific passwords for Gmail so that you only need to authenticate once
