I know because I recruited most of the politicians, celebrities, CEOs. Besides, schools don't change each time "powerful actors" say so (consider most efforts in ed reform). Schools change when educators see a good idea they like. CS in K-12 is a teacher-led movement. Their voice

However the companies deserve incredible credit for supporting the schools and nonprofits and universities that have shown leadership in this broadly popular movement. Great case study of corporate philanthropy doing real good to help the country and on a unifying cause.

My impression was there's been an academic/nonprofit/NSF push for K-12 computer science for decades, as
@douglevin pointed out in this thread. But it didn't really take off at scale until companies and groups like@codeorg threw their muscle/$ into it. No? -

@codeorg began with ~$300K from myself and my twin brother. With $300K we built a mailing list of 1M parents and 20K teachers who wanted CS to be taught in their school. - Show replies
