I agree. I believe we should teach long division as an algorithm, and instead of asking kids to learn it by repeating it 100 times, ask them to learn it by writing the pseudocode to automate it.

We all agree kids should understand fractions, ratios. You couldn’t possibly progress in math otherwise. I’d argue that a student who can code the algorithm for long division understands it better than the one who does it via rote repetition
