Studies also show that students who take a computer science course in K-12 outperform similarly situated peers at reading, writing, math, problem-solving, executive functioning, and are 17% more likely to enroll in university.https://codeorg.medium.com/cs-helps-students-outperform-in-school-college-and-workplace-66dd64a69536 …

Also good to see handwriting/written skills make an appearance there. Being able to write out algorithms/flowcharts by hand before reaching the coding stage critical piece.

Interesting. Is this contradictory to MIT report?https://news.mit.edu/2020/brain-reading-computer-code-1215 …
-
Not contradictory. The research I shared says language skills are 8x more predictive of success in coding than math skills, but it also says BOTH (language, math) are less predictive than general problem-solving skills, which seems aligned with this link you shared.

Expressing ideas effectively about a project involves language skills. Wouldn't it be neat to tie literacy with coding?pic.twitter.com/4ZIRWNIpIj

Lol great cartoon
. I’m certainly not an expert, but from my read of the original research it is about predictive relationships (which I interpreted to mean causation not correlation). But, I’m no expert so I could be mistaken.https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-020-60661-8 … - Show replies

Language skills will make you better in math too!

Huh. Never thought about this before but it makes so much sense. It perfectly aligns with the disconnects I’ve experienced with other engineers who are brilliant but just can’t really connect with making good code
