“There wasn’t a mass outbreak of anti-Muslim sentiment”? The anti-Muslim sentiment from 9/11 lasted so long that it has become a permanent part of the American psyche. Maybe you feel that’s normal and so you no longer notice it.https://twitter.com/paulkrugman/status/1304385740063805440 …

Overall, Americans took 9/11 pretty calmly. Notably, there wasn't a mass outbreak of anti-Muslim sentiment and violence, which could all too easily have happened. And while GW Bush was a terrible president, to his credit he tried to calm prejudice, not feed it 2/

there were countless cases of violence against all sorts of brown people (muslim or not). Burnings of mosques. Murders in cold blood. The USA started 2 wars and initiated a never-ending barrage of drone attacks on Muslim countries. A muslim ban on immigration.

I’m not even a Muslim, yet as an Iranian American I *still* feel the personal impact of the anti-Muslim sentiment from 9/11.

9/11 was a horrendous act of terror, and also a moment of incredible heroism by first responders. We will never forget.

To claim that America reacted “calmly” and without anti-Muslim sentiment is perhaps the most ridiculous and racist @nytimes opinion in recent history.

Who is “you lot”? I’m not aware of anybody cheering for that, but then again America’s extremists (on both ends of the spectrum) never cease to surprise.
