Many, and from my day almost all, programmers never had CS in high school. As long as you learn problem solving, coding is just a tool. Proper algorithm development requires more math background anyways, so are you learning more than syntax?

To a large degree that's my point. You can learn these things with or without computing. I'm all for CS but I think the skills can also be taught in other ways
