This is long and I still feel like you're missing the point. It's not exactly what or how we teach kids. My argument is about values and he we structure our thinking. When we let data and results live at the core of our beliefs, we lose our humanity

It’s possible in 30 years we may not have “grades” - neither 1st..12th nor A..F. Both are constructs from a pre-tech age, and may disappear as schools shift towards teaching creativity instead of rote memorization, and learning becomes more personalized.

I’m an Iranian immigrant who escaped an Islamic regime and war, I grew up poor, and was given Islamophobic nicknames my whole childhood. What does “white adjacent” mean? Shouldn’t one’s work or opinions be judged on merits not on gender or race?

Btw I know you meant that in an inclusive + funny way. Zero offense taken. I also understand the value of making room for non-dominant voices. Iranian immigrants are not “dominant” in the USA. They’re literally banned.

Nope. I have a pretty extreme combo of privilege and diaadvantage in my background. People see my privilege because it’s obvious. Most Americans have trouble even imagining a childhood where your neighborhood is bombed every single night.

Also, I’m not writing for pity. But on a weekend when so many “white adjacent” people were massacred for their religion, I hope we can carry on a friendly discussion about the pros/cons of testing in education without feeling bad about our identities.
