Yup. Definitely understand that. But it was also an opportunity “during” the interview to elevate other contributors. I’ve done this in interviews, on stage, with funders in private discussions for YEARS.

Of course. Since you want to do this on Twitter, can you let me respond to all your tweets before responding? The twitter threads are hard to nav on a phone. And, yes, I know you understand.

In terms of what I said, one thing you didn't criticize is the (high-level) narrative of "not enough women in jobs ...wealthy white guy solution = teach girls to code", as if the only problem is the education pipeline. I'm guessing you know that's never been my narrative.

That narrative is neither what I say nor believe. Our web page on our diversity outcomes (http://code.org/diversity ) makes this pretty clear. The recent article by reshma and ayah explains the mistakes in the narrative super well.https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/reshmasaujani/tech-gender-gap-pipeline-myth?bftw=&utm_term=4ldqpfp#4ldqpfp …

When I tell our story, I don't focus on my financial success, I focus on being an Iranian immigrant and the challenges with that. The pressure of editing left out a large part of what I say. I always talk about other organizations in our space as well.

My interview lasted ~ 1 hour. The parts that made it lasted 4 minutes. I don't remember specifically if I did or didn't uplift specific orgs, but I'm sure I spoke about the CS community at large because I regularly do.

But I do know that our head of marketing spoke with 60 minutes about other organizations too. We knew LittleBits was part of the feature. We knew they had also spoken to GirlsWhoCode. This wasn't a process where we chose the story, we provided our part and saw the end result.

Sunday when I saw Ayah was missing, I thought "I must have misunderstood, I thought she'd be interviewed. I guess they only featured the school using LittleBits." Tuesday I realized she'd been edited out on TV but included online.

Regarding highlighting the women on my leadership team, I agree 100%.
@AliceSteinglass is an incredible leader, and I insist on her taking speaking roles when it doesn't involve travel. Because of personal/family reasons, she asks me to do any interviews/speeches that need travel2 replies 0 retweets 0 likes -

Understood. Don’t tag in Hadi. That’s poor twitter etiquette.

Noted. I tagged her so she sees that her personal preference of avoiding travel or public speaking is being discussed. This isn't a woman who wants spotlight and is being refused it. It's the exact other way around.
