Hadi, may I also suggest that sometimes the most pertinent task of a “leader” is to take a step back especially as a man in a privileged position so that the voices (and contributions) of others can be heard. In effect you have power here and agency.
In other words...it’s not “just” media who is culpable here for the omissions in this story.
Thank you for your response. The segment and production were extremely problematic, but they brought to light some deep issues and gave us a chance to discuss discrimination and privilege in a tangible way. I hope we can move this dialogue forward by hearing and believing women.
One thing I hope is very clear: I didn't see the segment nor know the narrative until it aired. I was expecting a story of @codeorg + @littlebits, featuring me + @ayahbdeir. My own messaging never simplifies the gender gap as just an edu problem.
