Historically unlikely. Remember, despite the political rhetoric, in a capitalistic system, businesses are out to cut jobs whenever possible.
Technology has automated work countless times in past centuries, while also creating new needs and opportunities. Example: When the automobile was invented, people decried the collapse of horse-related jobs. That happened, but lots of car-related jobs were also created.

The net gain in jobs from automation is always lower. As a businessperson, that's the whole point. The last thing you would want is to have to pay MORE higher cost workers! I say this as someone who had automated factories. Any growth in other areas is usually not sustainable.

There is a good argument that the gains in other areas have been tied to consumer goods spending which is responsible for massive waste and ecological damage. And personally, I'm all for a return to horses, although my bike works pretty well too.
