The study was based on data from thousands of students, each of whom has individual stories. When you don’t believe in using data to inform education decisions or measure impact, you risk ignoring some stories.

This is a good conversation. Can you please share out the study if/when it clears peer review? Are you able to share who the third party researchers are?

We shared a link to it (transparently and without too much fanfare), but want to be clear it’s awaiting peer review. https://medium.com/@codeorg/research-shows-5x-computer-science-participation-at-schools-in-code-org-program-f99ca6ff3207 …

Meanwhile, data supports your assertion that Equity in CS is a long ways away, and data contradicts your suggestion that nothing has changed or is changing.

You also risk saying mission accomplished on a single data point. How can we reduce CS education to test scores? Yes it's a measure, I'm not denying that, but so much of what we do is based on building community, capacity, and agency that can't be measured so easily.
-
Agree data used incorrectly risks “mission accomplished.” That’s why when we shared our research we wrote “We’re a long way from balanced representation of young women and underrepresented minorities in computer science, and these results are incredibly promising.” Both are true.
