wine is not a vm (nor an emulator) running it in a vm would (probably) do no harm unless you have some files mounted to the vm, of course.

wine is an emulator. It emulates system libraries and binary formats. Stop with this stupid-ass "not an emulator xD" meme

it /implements/ the libraries and translates syscalls. you can emulate a cpu or whatever anyways, it definitely is not a VM tho
