A pediatrician we know told us that she's seeing far more cases of clinical depression and suicidal ideation in young kids than she has in the past. Another friend said LTC deaths (_not_ COVID-19) are up substantially in their facility (elderly feeling imprisoned giving up?).

I’m watching a usually vivacious 13 year old collapse in on himself in my home. He wants to go to school, he wants to be with friends, but now says, “Why leave the house? I can’t do anything!”

Is there any homeschool network/coop in your area. 4H? Even joining in an activity or two could help him. Let him read books. Even if he fails courses, if you can get him to GED level, he can be free of the educational system at age 16 to 18. Think outside their box.
