As global population increases, news becomes ever more bizarre & uselessly unrepresentative. Human extremes are not only weirder than we suppose, they are weirder than we 𝘤𝘢𝘯 suppose. And eventually we get AI: goals & errors not even constrained by human genomes/brains...

People say if you're worried about programs doing X, why not just not program programs to do X? Tell me, how do you feel about the reliability & security of *current* computers? Almost all errors are logic errors, not hardware glitches or typos. 'Computer, do Y.' [later] 'oh no.'

Aircraft accidents, precisely because they are so rare, are often extremely weird: the Germanwings suicide or just outright mysteries like the Malaysian MH370 airplane crashhttps://stevecoast.com/2015/03/27/the-world-will-only-get-weirder/ …

He's still in Israeli custody awaiting trial. People found a bunch of satellite antennas and stuff at his home. Israel has refused to cooperate with the FBI investigation. He *was* getting paid to make those threats.

"Do what you love and you'll never work a day in your life."

No, I'm not convinced that he personally cared about or enjoyed making threats. Why do you think that?
-
Because all the other swatters are sociopathic little twats who enjoy inflicting misery from a distance? Why don't you think that?

Swatters generally go after people they interacted with online. The classic case is somebody playing a video game and getting mad. He was operating on an industrial scale, and the Israeli government has been interfering with the US investigation.
-
Swatters, booters, spammers, doxers and other lowlifes get paid all the time... Remember the dude that got killed by a swatter not that long ago?
-
I don't believe he was paid.
-
Yes, he was. At the very least for some of his *other* swattings and threats. Just like many of them. Because they often do it for money. Just like this one probably was. Because what could be better than combining business with pleasure?
