Somehow, "hard work" is missing from these lists, execution is easy to forget when theorizing. (And I'm not trying to diss - it's as much about "laziness" as about motivation / mission and the luck part - just personal circumstances.)

At the top levels, everyone works hard. It doesn't need mentioning, and working hard can easily be a liability. How did Hamming put it, 'A year in the lab can save an hour in the library'?
