Does the fact that someone in the public eye has a terrible kid raise your expectation that they are a bad person behind closed doors? (via the kid reacting to their parenting / inheriting the bad traits)

Definitely small. Selection effect (how often do you hear about some famous person's kids rather than them? how often do you hear about *all* their kids?); only 50% relatedness; moderate heritability of all those traits in the first place; spousal effects; etc.
