If you don't have one for the house, I'd suggest a shotgun or at least a pistol. They get one warning shot, they won't hang around after that.

Pistol > shotgun in this scenario. If two have guns and you shoot one, the other can shoot you safely. Double-barrel, it only takes 3 to completely outgun you. And the way that reads, they're probably dealing with at least two, maybe 3-4. (You need a semi-auto weapon for this.)
