The kind of pushback I got from liberal "allies" when I started talking about actual fascists organizing locally was like nothing I've ever seen.
These mass killers aren't coming out of nowhere. There is a deep, scary reservoir of hate right under our noses, right in our communities. It is a gestation pool for these monsters, and increasingly a watering hole for feckless GOP politicians looking to pick up an easy base.
I'm so sick of neoliberals using a big, scary, violent imagining of antifascism as an excuse to ignore what is a very real, scary, and violent fascist ultra-right movement growing in our midst.
You know who made up that big, scary, violent narrative about Antifa, about everyone working to take down to nazis being scary and vioent and fringe? The nazis. The nazis play neoliberal respectability politics like a fiddle.
It's a convenient complicity for neoliberals, because everyone knows that if nazis are infiltrating mainstream politics, you're supposed to fight them. That's a lot of work, some of it dangerous. It's convenient to pretend that the nazis are still fringe.
This violence isn't going to stop. The ultra-right will keep giving lip service to Israel in public Facebook groups as cover, even as they parenthesis-frame Jewish names and discuss the Jewish Question in their private discord channels.
Speak up.
Volunteer to research.
Retweet and amplify and call emoloyers whenever @AntiFashGordon and @discord__panic and all those badasses discover the identities of nazis and other fascist racists.
Counter-protest whenever nazis gather.
STOP. NORMALIZING. SILENCE.
To be silent is to be complicit in the continued ascendancy of American fascism. To be silent is to be complicit in a culture of genocide and death.
