When I was sexually assaulted at the DNC by another Bernie delegate, I reached out to the his campaign about accountability. Jeff Weaver called to say he would help me, be a support, a shoulder to cry on. We talked briefly maybe twice. Then he stopped taking my calls.
What galls me still isn't just the dishonesty, but the depth of the attempted emotional manipulation. Weaver was far from the only official to feign concern then ghost once I was out of the news. But this guy all but offered to be my therapist. He just dripped empathy.
This is the first time I'm sharing this publicly, partly because I didn't want to hurt Bernie and partly because I feared professional consequences. I'm heartbroken but not surprised reading about the culture of sexual misconduct on the campaign. Jeff Weaver needs to go.
