Today's Python history lesson: Python took its control and data structures from ABC, its identifiers, strings and %-string formats from C, and its regular expressions from Perl. But its # comments (and #!) and -c command line flag came from the UNIX v7 shell.

Yeah, you give some and take some, that's how languages evolve. Now all languages are borrowing readability and cleaner syntax from python!

Pro tip: instead of using the -c option you can pipe the commands through stdin to the python interpreter. If you use vim, you can use :write! to execute python code directly from vim
