Irish mountainsides will be legally burned from now until spring to kill gorse and prevent natural succession. This is done by public and private groups. Did you know this happens? If you did, have you ever asked why this is done?

You’ve heard of the expression ‘the thorn is the mother of the oak’? On this part of Dartmoor, the gorse is the mother of the rowan - its spikes protecting it from grazing livestock. Rowbrook, north of the Dart.

Farmers in England to be allowed to use ‘lethal force’ on beavers | UK news | The Guardian. A disgusting situation. Based entirely on crude canard. Very wrong that this creature which offers so much can be killed by fools at whim. NFU at its vilest.

There’s been nervousness in govt about announcing this massive landscape recovery scheme but as says it is about securing our food production & working alongside farmers - it isn’t either/or. We need functioning ecosystems for agriculture

We also have to be honest about the fact that the vast majority of people who work in energy, including the grid operator, don’t think intermittency is an insurmountable problem and relying on a solely gas powered grid would send bills even higher.

Environment leaders stand together, once again, in defence of the Habitats Regulations. Instead of taking powers that could weaken our most vital conservation laws, Government should be focused on implementing them properly.

By helping bring about the end of the Cold War, Gorbachev also ushered in a new era of environmental geopolitics. The Rio Earth Summit of 1992 and climate & biodiversity Conventions were products of the 'peace dividend' following the end of the Cold War.

"Germany’s 3-month experiment with super-cheap public transport reduced carbon dioxide emissions equivalent to powering about 350,000 homes for a year." << low cost/free public transport probably the long term direction across Europe given climate targets

Look forward to seeing campaigning against golf course expansion instead of complaining about beavers & Tory leadership candidates speaking out about this rather than attacking solar farms 🤔

Another field potentially being lost. Is it a solar farm? Plane-busting electric train? No, that would at least be useful to help avoid the climate apocalypse. The fucking golf course next door wants to expand.
