Just to play Devil’s Advocate, I think most of the “socialists” in the US think more about the European model of socialism - high taxes, high level of services and safety net (look at Norway, the rest of Scandinavia, Switzerland, etc.) rather than Venezuela, USSR.

To divide everything between all the people is not capitalism, it’s socialism/communism.
The spirit of capitalism is the recognition of your own labor and efforts to reach success.

People simply need incentive, hope. The willingness to work usually follows. Socialism is not the answer.
